This special piece was hand carved by local artisans on the island of Sumba in Indonesia, made with ancient techniques. The people of Sumba has since antiquity been skilled in stone carving, making masks for harvest festivals, fertility rites, soul catching, death ceremonies and spiritual dances, initiation rites and exorcism rituals. They are believed to scare off evil spirits and sicknessas well as protecting from natural disasters like drought and floods.

 The mask comes complete on a blackened metal support and its story printed out for you inside a beautiful envelope. Being artisan crafted each piece is slightly different with natural imperfections. Dimensions: 22 x 9 x 7cm with the metal support
